About Tallong

Tallong is a beautiful country town located in the Southern Highlands. It is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and within an easy drive from Sydney and Canberra. It offers an attractive venue for backpackers and day trippers.

Tallong is located at the end of the Highland Way, second (or second to last, depending on which way one is traveling) village in the Southern Highlands. Tallong is unique among the villages of the area, having been a part of, at some point or other, Wingecarribee Shire, Mulwaree Shire, Greater Argyle Council and now Goulburn Mulwaree Council. We are culturally part of the Southern Highlands, spiritually in the Parish of Sutton Forest, and administratively in Goulburn Mulwaree Shire.

Despite this interesting and perhaps chequered heritage, Tallongites do not suffer from an identity crisis; the village and district is healthy and growing at a disproportionately fast rate compared with the rest of the area.

The Sydney housing boom at the turn of the Millenium brought affordable properties in Tallong to the attention of those seeking a change. Property prices tripled in some parts of the Village.

The market has slowed with the global economic crisis, but prices are holding steady. The analysts predict another period of housing growth in about one year, so Tallongites can probably expect another growth spurt.

Tallong is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and within easy reach of Sydney and Canberra.
